Welcome. I have been asked to write this column to help you to choose the right gear for the journey along what I can honestly say is the best long distance route in Britain.

Walking Equipment and other useful Gear

The most important thing to remember when walking the Coast to Coast is bring the right gear. This will make or break your enjoyment of this wonderful walk.

The lighter the load, the better.

Below is a kit list of all the equipment I take with me, I have added some links and reviews of kit which I feel has been extremely useful to me. I've put my comments alongside this gear to explain its use.

Remember, even in the height of summer you still need adequate warm water proof clothing. If you intend to cover some of the walk in the colder times of year you must ensure you bring winter gear.

Please note, I have set up links to websites where you can buy the relevant gear.

The best place to buy your equipment is in a specialist shop. I recommend... (click the graphic to visit their store)

Cotswold Outdoor Highly regarded specialist outdoor equipment company. Several stores across the country. If you can get along to one of their shops they also give out specialist advice on equipment.

Field & Trek Field & Trek are a specialist outdoor company with may outlets across the UK. More mainstream than Cotswold they do have an excellent range of gear.
